That is a really good price! If I hadn't just spent a million dollars on my MacBook Pro setup I'd be your guinea pig in a jiffy.

Currently the best deal for top quality ram is to select the 8GB Upgrade from Apple. When you consider it comes installed & covered by Apples Warranty, it's an easy choice. I paid just $10 more for the upgrade, than the brand X listed above.

Of course, the original Apple upgrade means that you get two 4GB units with your computer, rather than having the 3rd party units AND the 4GB RAM that is included in the MBP. You can sell the RAM easily, so in the end the 3rd party upgrade route is even cheaper.

3rd party memory also comes with warranty. Installing 3rd party HDD/SSD and RAM does not invalidate the warranty on other parts. The memory upgrade is just a few minutes, while the storage can be replaced in a couple of hours by either cloning or doing a clear install.

OWC will rebate your genuine apple RAM @ $30 per 2GB card.

EDIT: They just lowered the rebate to $25 2GB card today. grrr!

Excellent point about selling the original ram. Usually Apples upgrade prices of the past have been quite high, this year is the exception which was my point. :)

Just received the RAM (8GB) from OWC. Got them installed in 15 minutes. No problems so far.

VMware Fusion is running a lot smoother now with enough RAM :)
