How much difference is there performance wise between these two options which both come in at the same price (approx $3200 AUS):

iMac 27” base model i5 with 512gb SSD / 8gb Ram

Refurb 2017 MacBook Pro quad core i7 / 16 GB Ram / 512gb SSD

Either option laptop v desktop works for me just the iMac pricing and upgrade costs are excessive.
 
The iMac, unless you need mobility.

The issues related the MBP are enough to find an alternative imo.

I'd get the iMac for the reliability factor. Of course it hasn't been out for long but it won't have the Touch Bar nor the keyboard issues. The larger form factor and upgradeability of RAM is nice too. I am looking at an iMac 27 myself.
