This question is about my MBP, but it could be any Mac really.

Basically, I just got a MBP. It's took me all day to set up and I was thinking to myself "thank god I don't have to do this again" and something just crossed my mind.

If my MacBook ever needed to go in for repair, say for a new screen, or a logic board, battery etc. Basically anything but the HDD. Can I keep my data? I'm unsure if changing things like the logic board requires OS X to be re installed.

Just something I'm wondering, hopefully I will never have to find out.

Usually they don't touch the HDD if it isn't affected. But, you should regardless keep all your stuff backed up. If there is a severe problem, they may completely reinstall OS X.
