Long story short, my late 2011 MBP's SD card slot doesn't work. I have tried several cards, cleaning the slot, and install various software. I can't get it to work so I am afraid I have a logic board problem. I'd like to have it looked at before my warranty runs out.

If a logic board needs replacing, do they replace the entire MBP? My MBP is custom order, so would they find a refurbished computer that is equal to mine or would I get a new one? I just wondering about general replacement policies.

And if it matters, I have Apple Care.

If you take it in to an Apple Store, they'll send it out to be fixed (or occasionally fix it in the store) and replace whatever parts are broken. If it's something they can replace they will. Total computer replacement is the last resort, but can happen if you have the same problem multiple times.

I've had the logic board replaced on several MBP's in the past.

If you have AppleCare, take it to the Apple Store.

You paid for the AC.

Let them fix it.

Very simple...
