Hi,

I've found it strange that my Macbook won't turn up the fan's rpm despite when I'm using a intensive CPU application such as Football Manager or Civilization. I know that Macs aren't built for gaming but Football Manager requires very little graphical power and is mainly a database game which uses the CPU mainly.

I've seen my temperatures go up to 90C-95C while the fans stay at around 1200-2000rpm. I know many may say that 90C is fine and the laptop is built to withstand these temperatures but my understanding is that persistent high temperatures can lead to shorting of the components within the laptops lifespan.

Considering that the macbook can go up too 6000rpm which could significantly lower the temperature, I'm wondering why it won't? Did Apple decide this to purely keep the laptop silent (while very hot?!)....

I installed Fan Control yesterday which allows me to set the rpm to something like 2500-3000 while gaming which keeps the temp at around constant 65C. Although it is working fine I'm not sure if I should be messing around with these sort of apps as I don't want to wear down the fan as its not like you can easily replace any of the components within the laptop with the retina model.

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Thanks
