Hello,

My question is as follows: I have a 28" 4K monitor and want to hook it up to my Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2015) with R9 graphics card. When I use the HDMI output, the resolution is fine, but the monitor feels laggy due to the 30Hz refresh rate. Apparently this is the maximum frequency the HDMI can send out. Now I know that Displayport 1.2 does support the 4K resolution on 60Hz, but I'm not quite sure about the connector.

Can I get a connector from my Thunderbolt 2 (or mini displayport) to displayport so that it can work on 60Hz? Or will it still just work on 30Hz? Are there any certified Apple connectors available. Most connectors that I've found don't list the 4K output frequency and I don't want to buy something if it doesn't work.

(For the questions that will probably show up:
- yes my monitor can definitely run at 60Hz
- yes I have a displayport 1.2 to displayport 1.2 cable
- no I don't want to run my 4K monitor on 1080p... (what's the use then really??? ;-) )

The max resolution for that cable is 2560x1600. So doubt that will give a decent resolution on my screen with a 3840 × 2160 resolution... :/
But thanks for the post though!

Where are you seeing 2560x1600? The specs state the following:

Supports resolutions up to 4Kx2K, including 3840x2160, 2560x1600, 2560x1440, 1920x1200, 1080p and etc.

*EDIT*

I'm specifically looking at the 6' cable. The longer ones don't support 4K.

Ok now I see. The adapter does support 4K. Thanks for the info. Will order it tomorrow! ;-)
