Hi I bought the standard base model retina version a few weeks ago. I did a clean install of Yosemite on it also. How can I improve the battery life? Is there any way of making it better? I use safari etc

OP has a new Retina and those don't need to be calibrated.

Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article.
