Hello all,

I know there are a million posts about MBP's powering to a dark screen. However I have reset the PRAM and SMC. The computer chimes as normal but refuses to boot into safe mode or recovery if I hit the other buttons to do so when powering on. When the grey screen is just hanging there I can shut the MacBook entirely and the Apple logo found on the top of the computer still glows when it is all the way shut. Maddeningly enough the computer randomly worked for me for all of about 5 minutes after restarting for the umpteenth time then when I stepped away the grey screen was back and the problem persists.

With it not allowing me to boot in safe or recovery type modes do you think this could be a virus? I understand Macs don't get them often but it does happen. Outside of suggesting a Genius Bar appt does anyone have any insight or suggestions based on that evidence above?
