Macbook Pro Retina - Snow on External Display then Reboot

I have a 13" Macbook Pro Retina that is connected to an external display using a display port cable. While working all of a sudden my screen turns to snow then in about 20-30 seconds the system reboots. Is there any way to detect what is causing this issue?
