Typically, warranties cover manufacturing defects. Insurance covers damage, theft, etc.

If your home owners or renter does not have a ryder for the device...it most likely wont be covered.

i know I'm ****ed on the macbook air, I am asking now about the retina, any recommendations for providers?

They have all told you to check with your homeowners insurance. Renter's insurance should be fine, but make sure you find out about what a claim will do to your rates.

would renter's insurance cover it if I lost it somewhere, i.e., leave my bag at starbucks, and next thing I know, no computer.

Depends on the policy. But honestly, you wouldn't want to file a claim for such a small item. It will jack up your costs over the next few years and your provider might even drop you.

I just added coverage to my Geico for $21 a year. Theft, loss, damage, etc $0 deductible.

Why not google 'renters insurance florida'?

I personally don't care to cover individual items. When we got my wedding rings (which cost a lot more than my macbook), we looked into covering them by our homeowners insurance and it was pretty pricey to do it, so we said screw it. I figure whatever happens, happens.

A lot of credit cards have theft/damage coverage but typically they only last the first 90 days or so. That might be an option that you could utilize for the time being.
