Macbook Pro screen issue

My friend has a 15" 2011 Macbook Pro (MC721). It's up to date running Lion. Yesterday he came back to his Macbook after being out, opened the lid, and was greeted with this (see attached). Any ideas as to what's going on? I've seen others with screen issues, but not with this colour variation (don't know if that makes a difference or not?)

My 15" MBP had been lines everywhere when it ran hot. I had it replaced. Clearly the screen shot doesn't look right, I would take the picture and the mac to a genius in store.
