My MacBook Pro screen went black suddenly, although I knew the computer was still working fine. Cursor was visible and sound was on, in fact I was watching a video when this happened, and the video sound went on. No amount of alt-tabbing or control-escaping did nothing, I had to hard reset the computer with a long press of the turn on button. After restarting all is OK.

Should I be concerned? Is this a common thing?

Its a MacBook Pro 13 inches, 2019.
I had safari and terminal instance, not much else.
The screen went black while watching a video in Steam.

That is odd. I'm inclined to say it's a software issue since things went back to normal after a restart.

Try to replicate the issue. If you can and it doesn't happen with other apps, my conclusion is that it's software-related.

I had similar issue before and even restarting does not help. But I notice that the touch bar was displaying the apps menus and it changes if I press Command+Tab.

To remedy this, I press Command+Q multiple times until it closes all running apps that is on the screen and it somehow fixes the problem. See if that works for you.
