Hi,

I've been using my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, MacOS Catalina 10.15.4) for 2 years now. 90% of the time it's plugged in, I really try to take care of my battery life. If it was not plugged in, I always took care that the battery did not go lower than 50%. Maybe 2 weeks ago, I was helping out a friend about the battery life of his MacBook, so I also checked mine and the battery status was Normal.

Today I accidentally clicked on the battery and saw that is shows Service Battery. Somehow I can't understand it, how can it be possible, if I took so good care of it. I tried reseting SMC, but it did not help. How could my battery deteriorate during those 2 weeks so badly?

Now I tried the battery and after 30 mins it drained cca 22%. I'm attaching a screenshot from the system report if you can read something out of it.

Is there something I can try in order to fix it other than replacing the battery? The MacBook is not under warranty anymore.

Well, it is dying battery. Somehow early, but it is dying.
Since this is 2017 model (I have 15 inch 2017), Apple has extended warranty on keyboards due to failing keys (https://support.apple.com/keyboard-service-program-for-mac-notebooks). Even for out of warranty MBPs. At least on 15 inch ones, when they replace keyboard, they have to replace also battery (it is one piece glued together as service part). If you have any malfunctioning key which sometimes registers more than once or does not register, they should replace the keyboard for free. In that case you would get also new battery... Now, that would be easy to try to get if Apple stores would be opened.

I understand that the battery deteriorates over time , but this much with me being precautious? There's no problem with my keyboard. I found some news online saying that Macbook Pros 2017 w/o Touchbars had some faulty batteries. So I went on the Apple website and found a page where you can insert your serial number and it will tell you if you are eligible for a free replacement, but unfortunately this wasn't my case. I seriously think there's something wrong with the battery. You can see on the screenshot I posted that there's a plenty of cycles left, even though I've been using my Macbook for 2 years.

Today, I tried the battery with full charge and with me working on my notebook the battery can take 3 hours. This evening, I will try to recalibrate it by charging it to 100% and draining it again and leaving it like that overnight. I'll see if there would be any change tomorrow morning, but I'm pretty much sceptical.
