I have a A1278 MacBook Pro that is shutting down after you enter password for account. It starts the loading bar and halfway through it shuts down. If you boot from a usb drive, it also shuts down. It will not boot into recovery. I have tried to boot from cd but shuts down. I have ordered another ac adaptor but still has same problem. The battery is not being charged. When you press the battery button on side, no lights come on.
I have taken hard drive out and it tested fine. I have checked the magsafe part on laptop and everything looks fine. I have reset pram and smc...no change. Any ideas?

Which model is the MacBook? Apple used the a1278 identifier for several models over the years.
I believe it is a 2011 13" model
[doublepost=1532549507][/doublepost]I have tried with one stick of ram in at a time..same problem. I have taken the HD out and tried to boot to usb. Same problem.

Do you hear or see the fan spinning?

Try again by disconnecting the keyboard and battery and trying to boot.

The fact that you disconnected the battery and it still shuts down part way leads me to suspect the logic board itself.

fan is spinning. I disconnected the keyboard and it does not shut down. I will probably order a keyboard and go from there.
thanks for the help
