macbook pro slow ( wheel of death)

Macbook pro late 2011
8gb ram
750gb Drive (not even near full)
I keep getting the colour wheel every time i click on anything that from opening safari to even playing a song on itunes and the delay of anything happening can be from 10-60 seconds its incredibly annoying, this happened over night my mac ran like a galloping horse then the next day it was slower than a turtle can anyone help ? even on booting up the laptop i get a long gret bar and it can take from 2-50 minutes to get the laptop turned and logged on sometimes its freezes and has to be done numerous times

My bet is that spinning hard drive you've got... Put an SSD in there and be free!

What size MBP is it?

Anyway, sounds like a dying hard drive to me. Hope you have a recent backup.

As Snaky69 says, it sounds like a dying hard drive take a complete back up while you still can and replace it.
