I have been buying space black since it has been offered. Back in the day I had a silver powerbook g4 and am thinking of going back to silver. Assuming apple sticks with space black and silver what color will your next MacBook Pro be?

I miss Space Gray, that was the best MBP color ever.

Silver I think is the second best choice. Mine is sliver and I think it looks sleek and elegant, even if it’s not quite as perfect as space gray. Unlike some people here, I actually really like the contrast between the silver top case and the black keyboard inlay. Silver does show fingerprints more than you might think in certain lighting, but they’re easily wiped off.

I agree Space Black could show chips or scuffs much more easily than other colors do. I’d probably avoid it if you’re OCD about that kind of stuff.

One thing I noticed about Space Black that bothers me when I looked at it in the store, that I can’t ever unsee: the very slight color difference between the top case and the keyboard inlay. If the keyboard inlay truly disappeared seamlessly into the case, it would make space black so much better imo.

I worried my space black M4 MBP would chip or that the colour would rub off. It likes fingerprints a bit more than I wish it did, but apart from that it’s gorgeous. Space black for me. Make it two. ;)
I’ll admit I really like the color, way more in person than I do based on photos of it—which I’ve seen vary from actually black to a weird brownish-gray. But like I said above, that case-keyboard contrast thing I just can’t unsee. Glad to hear you’re not having issues with scratches though.

I have space black, just love the color. Space black for me too.
All fingerprints, scratches (cause of my watch) or rubbed off color doesn't interest me, it's a tool to use and since I use it daily it doesn't bother me. My next mbp will be space black or if available space gray.

The Space Black shows wear and you can see the aluminum coming thru on the edges of my iPad Pro and a bit on the front edge of my MacBook Pro. Back to the silver for my upgrades.

I prefer the look of the space black but not its functionality.

I'd opt for silver given those two options (my current M4 MBP is silver) but if Apple brings a few colors to the Pro line I'd have to give those some consideration.

I felt that Space Gray had a good run but I was ready for something different with the M4s, so I switched to the Space Black and haven't regretted it once. The silver has felt dated for a while now, and I prefer darker colors for my gear.

Normal wear and tear shows up more readily because of the contrast between the black finish and the bare metal underneath, or the oil of a fingerprint on the matte finish. But that's an issue only for the neurotics, so stay with the gray shades.

Have the M4 pro in space black and love it. It’s a lot more durable than I thought it would be after all the talk about scuffing. Have a tiny scuff by the charging port that’s barely visible. Looks as good as new overall. Would definitely get it again.

Same here

I got space black, it’s a nice and dark colour.

Even though it chips or scratches easily my Mac has no scratch at all and I clean off the hand prints

I'm planning on getting an M5 Pro or M5 Max MacBook Pro once they are released (I'm currently on an M3 MacBook Air which has one or two minor issues but AppleCare+ coverage, which I plan to sell or give to someone) and have been wondering in recent days whether it would be better getting the silver or space black version. I like the aesthetics of the space black colour more, however most of the space black machines I've seen show wear in the coating after a few months, particularly at the edges, whereas silver doesn't suffer from this problem. To be honest I find it a little sad that Apple discontinued the space grey option, which was halfway in between in colour, looked the nicest of the three in my opinion, and didn't (at least noticeably) suffer from the wear issues that the space black colour does.

Are the space black wear issues known to have been fixed/reduced on the base M5 MacBook Pro, or is the coating process identical to on the M4 models? Apple sometimes make minor improvements like this in subsequent revisions of products that retain largely the same design (for example I think they remedied the bend issues with the iPhone 6 in the iPhone 6s and more or less fixed them completely in the iPhone 7).

My M4 Pro in space black has had no issues with the coating wearing off, and I use it almost every day. I think the notion that the M4 Macs have issues in that regard are overblown.

I've seen a couple of space black M4 MacBook Pros where there is a small amount of silver wear (or an out of the box defect) in places around the edges and the ports.

Got my first Space Black Mac in November last year - a 14 inch M4 Pro, which joins my fleet of exclusively silver Apple Silicon Macs and I have to say it's very nice and - so far - it's holding up well and resisting fingerprints better than I hoped.

I will say my Wife's 16 inch Space Black MacBook Pro has a slightly different tone - it's slightly more 'bronze' than the 14 inch. Could just be the colour changes its complexion slightly when seen over a larger surface area, but it is noticeable and while still very nice would make me consider about sticking with silver for the bigger model.

The Space Black is fine. I personally like the silver because of the contrast with the screen and black keyboard plus it matches the Studio Display.

Same here, I got Space Black as it's really a stealthy color. It's my third black colored apple product I had, in addition to space gray Apple Watch series 1, and space gray iPhone 5s.
