Hope you can help me out in solving a spark issue.
Whenever I try and plugin an external monitor to my Macbook Pro (early 2015) I get a heavy spark and the charging process stops.
So there is some kind of earth / power issue but I cannot solve it.
What I already tried (still sparks and charging stops):
- Another Macbook pro
- Another external monitor
- Another power outlet
- Another power supply / adapter
- Using VGA instead of HDMI
- Replaced the Magsafe DC-jack
Did a continuity test and the socket I am using has a proper earth connection (and using another outlet did not make any difference).
Any thoughts suggestions?

Would be helpful to state what the problem was. But I'm guessing it would be non earthed duckhead?

The non earthed duckhead is not triggering any sparks. So it is independent of the Macbook itself (which I already expected) so Apple would not have been able to do or find anything.

Yes, please save us the suspense and get to the juicy details already.

But what is causing the problem then?

Are you so sure? The ground is in place to safely discharge a short circuit. So if its sparking (a short circuit), you're merely hiding the fact that something still could be wrong.

Yes, the non earthed duckhead is making sure the macbook cannot be used a a discharge route. And the problem occured with two different computers. there is noting wrong with the laptop itself. These sparks are indeed indicating something can be wrong but I suspect the earthing of the house for which I have scheduled an appoitment to have it checked by a professional.

There may or may not be something iffy with earth, could just be that the floating potential is charged enough to cause a discharge when the macbook is earthed though.

Getting and using one of the longer extension cables to the power brick should stop the sparking then in either case.
