[Macbook Pro] - Speakers are not recognized

I am having the following problem: when I connect my Logitech Z-2300 speaker set, my Macbook pro 13'' doesn't recognize it. Instead, it recognizes it as being a headset. This would not be a problem if sound would come from both speakers, but only one speaker produces sound - sometimes the left speaker and sometimes the right speaker.

Could anyone tell me how to get sound from both speakers? I tried Google without luck.
