I have some DVD-R that I would like to burn some music onto.
But, everytime I enter a blank DVD-R (TDK Brandname), it spits it right back to me after being in the machine for 5-10 seconds.

What type of DVDs are compatible with Mac?

This is the type of DVD I'm using:

Brand name: TDK
Memory: 4.7GB
1-16x, DVD-R

Should work. Could either be a bad dvd or the dvd drive is broken. Try some other blank dvds. If it is still not working, take it to an apple store for repairs.

just for kicks do the basics i do with basic weird mac problems. Restart the computer, check for updates, check disk permissions for errors.

I noticed that my MacBook Pro did not read DVDs anymore and spit them out like you mentioned right before the logic board died.
