I came accross a deal on MacMall for a SR Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz for $1499. Its a brand new "closeout".

Is it worth buying at this price and saving $500 off the price of a new macbook pro?

Jeff

These sell for $1449 refurbished (still comes with 1yr Apple warranty) from Apple's own website when they have them in stock, so $1499 for a new one is pretty good (assuming the Macmall one is new with a full 1yr warranty).

This model has the 128MB 8600GT though as opposed to the 256MB/512MB 8600GT on the higher-end/newer Macbook Pros. Not sure if it matters to you or not.

It really depends on what you need. If you really really need the graphics chip, then yea that's a pretty good deal on an MBP. Otherwise, you're paying $1499 for a computer that's less powerful than a $1299 MacBook.

I have the Santa Rosa platform MacBook Pro, and to be honest I am super glad that I got this version. Working at Best Buy I get to play with all the new toys that we get, and I don't think that the Multi-touch trackpad has been perfected, so if you can get a MBP SR at that price, GET IT!

$1449 now. And you get $100 off a printer, just like Apple, and Parallels for free. Seems nice to me, minus the 4 rebates (computer, printer, parallels, and a mail in rebate for free shipping).

No tax at macmall, unlike from the Apple store.

I bought one in the UK for about $1600 (£800) with 2 years warranty.

I know it is not the latest version but it is still a good buy.
