Apple isn't very transparent about its hardware/specs. This leads to some confusing when customizing a new MBP. Are the different sizes of SSDs available *only* different in storage size - or do they have performance ramifications too? Are the stock MBP SSDs all of identical performance?

The larger the SSD, the quicker the read/write speeds. This is because Flash chips work in parallel.

Anything above 512GB should easily offer around 2GB/s read/write speeds though. The 2TB speeds would be near enough identical to the 1TB speeds.

If you want detailed or specific information, in the 2016 MBPs Apple use the same chips as the Samsung 960 Pro M.2 NVMe. So here's the full spec sheet: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/ssd960.html
