Hey guys this is the first major problem I've had with my MacBook pro. I started it up this morning and heard everything crank to life, but after the harddrive finished clicking the display was still black. No backlight either. The white status light on the latch button is a solid white.

Can anyone help me fix this? I can't be without my computer for too long.

Does it persist when you restart the computer? You can force it to shut down by holding the power button for a few seconds.

Do you have an external monitor you could hook up?

Are you sure the backlight isn't just off? If you hold it up to a bright light, you should be able to see the ghosts of text on the display.

do you have the gforce 8600m because those are the symptoms of a dead video card. i had those same symptoms twice and it required a motherboard replacement each time. Apple extended the warranty to 2 years for this issue if you have the gforce and no applecare. It takes 3-5 days to get the computer back.

Ugh yep, it's one of those. June 5th '07 model.

Is it possible to get files off of my vista partition? I have some undergraduate research code on there.

I've heard I could boot into a sort of disk mode by holding down t?
I would need another mac right? and an 800-800 firewire cable?
