Hi chaps. I can see this sort of thing has come up before but I haven't been able to find a solution.

For starters, I am using a MacBook Pro I purchased roughly a year ago running 10.9.5 (I'm an old fuddy-duddy and I like it) and have been using a Seagate Drive (can't remember the name of it now, sorry) primarily to do film editing work (and some basic storage). Everything's been going swimmingly for the entire time I've had both computer and hard drive...until this morning. I plug it in (both USB and wall power) and I hear it whirring but nothing comes up. Not on the sidebar, disk utility or system information. After a moment, the whirring stops.

I've tried it in the other socket and got no result. I've tried other devices in them and they all work perfectly - including my previous hard drive (wall and USB as well) that I replaced with the current one as it was giving me strife. I tried the Seagate in my housemate's iMac which is running 10.6.8 and has been around for a fair few years now. In there, it works perfectly. Now, said housemate has graciously let me use it as I have a big project that needs to be finished this week but I really would rather be back on my MacBook.

Any thoughts?
