Long time stalker, first time poster. I've found this site to be most useful in my frustrations with computers. At least less frustrating than my XP days.
Anyway..
I'm looking for some hardware that can do the following:
1. A storage device that can connect wirelessly to my MPB so that I can send files wirelessly, either through my network or an ad-hoc network? which would be faster? that's if you can add an external hard-drive to an ad-hoc network?
2. Then with that same storage device connect it to my TV using HDMI to play media content e.g. music, films, etc.
3. Must be at least 1tb as a lot of the films are projects I'm working on and will tend to be pretty big files (avid filmmaker).
4. Have a media interface? can they be installed straight onto the hard-drive or would I have to get a specific multimedia drive?
I've spent endless google searches looking at hard drives, media devices, etc etc. I don't want to stream and I don't want to buy a mac-mini. I was hoping for a cheaper solution than to shell out on an entire computer. At the moment I use a mini-dvi to hdmi adapter, it's an hassle! It's okay if you're not a frequent user, but seeing as I use it a lot I have to keep setting up almost everyday and even then it has it's problems with frames running slow.
In my searches I found this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smart-Exter...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0V4JYN3C4SNAF4MCW96M
However, it's not available. I couldn't find it anywhere else but it pretty much says it does what I need?! Will any external hard drive with wireless capability do what I want it to do? typically I wouldn't expect most to have an HDMI port, would I be able to get an adapter?
Note: I have no idea what I'm doing.
