I bought my Macbook Pro in Oct 2009 and am trying to figure out which cables I need to hook it up to my new Sony Bravia TV. It's my understanding that Apple made a Macbook Pro that would allow video and audio to pass through the HDMI cables but I'm not sure if that's the one I have. Do I just need the minidisplay port to HDMI or do I need something else?

I would try exactly that. My experience is limited to pre-unibody MBP, where the best quality and resolution was achieved by using a DVI to HDMI cable (and a separate audio to my receiver). I wonder if the dual-link DVI adapter would add any benefit in your case, I doubt it though.

I'm pretty sure that it is only the 2010 MacBook Pro version that will do audio and video through the MiniDisplay Port to HDMI.
