Hey guys!
Just a heads up for anyone that got unresponsive keyboard on Macbooks 13"/15" with touch bars out of warranty.

I bough my Macbook Pro 15" with Touchbar in late 2016 at launch day. The Left Command Key never worked.
I use the laptop for work and I never bothered bringing it in for repairs passing the 1 year warranty.

Thanks to the Recall a week ago I brought it in at an Apple store.

Well for free I got the following:

- New top cover with touchbar and Keyboard [new upgraded version]
- New Logicboard
- New Battery

Basically an almost new laptop for free!!
Amazing Apple customer care!!
Thanks Macrumors to let me know about this recall!

Sweet!

That's fantastic. How long did it take for the repair?

Only 5 days! (I actually have your same exact model)
I realized that the keyboard is also the new updated version.
It feels way nicer and it is supposedly equipped with a new seal that prevents dust going under the keys! Finally!

Best deal ever I used the laptop a lot for already almost 2 years.
The battery started loosing capacity and the keyboard was definitely getting the signs of time on it!
Now the macbook pro performs and looks like new ahah!

That's great! I have a genius appt for tomorrow to fix the creaking of my computer. Perhaps they will address all this other stuff as well. The creaking problem is that every time I open up my MacBook, after it has been asleep for a while, or a cold boot, there is a "popping" sound. It also will make this sound a few times while it is warming up.

Anyway, it is covered under AppleCare. Otherwise, I would have addressed this a long time ago.

Surprised they replaced the logic board, I wonder why? did they damage it during repair I wonder.

Congrats :) Can you make a picture of alt/option key (we can spot the difference between generations by its design, 2016 is without a symbol, 2017 symbol is flatter and 2018 is taller) also, if you dare, with phone opener you can actually try to see if it's a modern design or old design, just be very careful, open first the left top edge then right top edge, there are tiny clamps on the corners. Don't do it with wide keys, only small letter keys (wide keys have different clamps design which is more complicated to open)

The 2018 keyboards are not compatible with, and are not being retrofitted to, the 2016-2017 computers. There’s no seal in the revised 2017 keyboard.

This is wrong. They are installing 2018 keyboards on 2016-2017 units to fix the issue and it does have a new seal. There are other topics on this and pictures of it being done in this very forum.

I’ve provided a link that backs up my assertion. Now it’s your turn.

Search the forum. There are pictures people posted of them getting the new 3rd gen keyboard with the new seal over them on there 2016-2017 MBP. I don't need to do it for you. But you are flat out wrong. Anyone who knows Apple knows they have lied many times in the past about replacing items with newer products.

No, you’re the one who’s contradicting Apple so you need to back up your claim. I can find plenty of people not getting 2018 keyboards.

Wow, you are helpless. I am not doing it for you. I was part of the topic where I saw the guy get a new keyboard and he had the new film under his keys. He posted pictures. Enough said. I've had apple stuff for 20 years and have known them enough to know they do lie. They won't admit they have an issue or replacing keyboards with a fixed version so they stop returning. One of these days you will learn.

That isn't saying that some people got the wrong replacement. It was before this keyboard replacement program was ever announced.

You weren’t part of that topic on this forum unless you did so under another account.
Apple introduced the 2018 MBP in July, and announced the repair program in June. It’s impossible that anyone got a 2018 keyboard in advance of the computers being released to the public.

I never said I posted in it, but I read the topic. The guy posted pictures. Again, it happened. You can believe it or not, but it happened at least to that one person on this forum.
