Hello everyone, I need some help before with the backlight repair on a macbook pro a1278 mid 2012. It does turn on everything works except the backlight. My dilema is if I replace the hole lcd unit and the problem persists. I want to eliminate possible causes before I go and replace the whole screen. Can somebody guide me what steps to do first and where the parts are located to troubleshoot? (backlight fuse, etc)

Thank you in advance. 20131003_080222.jpg20131003_080242.jpg

a clear picture of the area around the display connector would make it easier. Also post a picture/close up of the display connector. Do you see any pins on it burnt or missing? I am assuming you have already cleaned any residue of soda with 95% iso alcohol.

Yes I forgot to mentioned that I did Cleaned it with Alcohol. I looked through it and nothing seems to be burnt. I took the photo as close as my camera allowed it. 20131003_165710.jpg

I see the letter "P" in one of the arts. Is that the fuse for the Backlight?

Just sell it anonymously like new/refurbished at craigslist or eBay. It will rot anytime soon anyways.
That's what I did last year after spending $900 on repairs without luck!!!

Problem Solved, Another MacBook Pro saved

I'm very happy to let all of you know, The the problem is solved. Backlight is back on!

After cleaning the board with alcohol I decided to look a bit more closely with my magnifying visors (15x) I went through all the components around the lcd connector front and back of the board. After going through them I notice some residue between different components I carefully scraped the residue lose and finished it off with a toothbrush and alcohol I did this for the whole components. Plugged the board back up, Made sure every single connector was correctly inserted into their respective sockets, turned the mac on and bingo the backlight came on keyboard works, mouse pad works.

Thanks to this wonderful forum and all the useful tips and instruction, another Mac is back!!!!
