I might be getting a mbp soon and I want to switch out the keyboard/top case. Is it hard to do? It's a unibody model.
 
i live in germany and can only get a german mac. I want a US keyboard though.

If you buy your MacBook Pro from the Apple Online Store, you can specify a US keyboard. See the screenshot below.

I'm poor and buying one off of ebay. Still comes down to being cheaper if I buy a keyboard for $300. found one for $120 btw. Now I just need to know how to switch it. Or I'll have someone do it for me.
 
From what I've heard, replacing the keys on the unibodies is rather more difficult than it seems.

Also, aren't the return and right shift keys a completely different shape on the US keyboard compared to the German keyboard? I know the UK and US keyboards differ largely.

It would be cheaper just to look for a US model on eBay.. there's no point of going through all that hassle.
