As we've all been patiently waiting for the update to the MacBook Pro lineup -
Would the recent update simply be considered incremental? I know that folks pride themselves on the "benchmarks" of their machines - but beyond these benchmarks, is there any noticeable real-world improvement with the new MacBook Pros as compared to last year's model.
The reason I ask is that Amazon has last year's model for 25% less than this year's model - which seems to me to be a very good deal.
The only thing I noticed that seemed new in the new marketing material for the most recent MacBook Pro was the bit under wireless about the 3G cards from AT&T. This is of utmost importance to me - and I'm wondering if these cards will only work with the latest model, or if last year's machines, having the same slot, will also accommodate these cards.
My primary concern is "futureproofing" my purchase as much as possible - as I plan to use the machine for a minimum of 4 years before my next purchase. I'm hoping the machine can handle future releases of the Mac OS and new releases from Adobe over the next 4 years - in comparing the new model vs. last year's model.
Again, I know that one machine beats the next with these benchmarking tests - but as a non-techie, I have doubts that they reflect real world usage.
I'd just like to know from the gurus, if they were making the same decision, what would they do? Pay the extra 25% for the newest model (the $2500 model with the additional cache is out of my price range), or go with last year's model.
Thanks very much for any info/advice.
