So I have a 2009 MacBook Pro, and before college I am thinking about doing some updates. First of all I would like to update the RAM for sure. Then I may update the HD. Here is what I currently have:

2.53 GHZ Intel Core Duo
250 GB
4 GB RAM

I have found the correct RAM on Crucial, I want to go with 8GB:

And I am also interested in doing a SSD. I am not going to rush into it, but it is something I am thinking about. I also know very little about replacing a hard drive. This is the one that Crucial recommends, and I am looking for about 250 GB:

Any help is great!

I have the same specs in my 2009 13 MBP. I upgraded the RAM to the one in your link and also put in a Crucial M4. You will definitely see an increase in speed and snappiness with the SSD.

To replace the hard drive it is a piece of cake. Just get an external enclosure that will accommodate a 2.5" like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182140

Then install Carbon Copy http://www.bombich.com/ and clone your drive to the SSD. Then just swap them and boot up.

A tutorial to swap the drive can be found here http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-Hard-Drive-Replacement/1337/1
