Hi everyone,
I believe the M1 MBP only supported 1 external monitor but now Apple advertises that the M1 Max chip is capable of 3+1 via HDMI. With only 3 USB-C ports, surely you would need to connect at least 1 display through a dock or daisy chain a few monitors. Anyone know if this will be possible? I'm thinking of a 4 external display setup:

1x HDMI
1x USBC - Display Port
1x USBC - Display Port
1x USBC - Dock w/ Display Port and/or HDMI and additional accessories (ethernet, USB for mouse/keyboard, etc.)

Any idea if this would be possible on the 14" MBP M1 Max? I'd want none of the displays to be mirrored and all act as their own extended displays.

Thanks

I'm interested in this too (only for 2 monitors though). I'm wondering if there's a dock where you can plug into 1 usb-c port on the MBP and plug in all the other monitors into a dock. Anyone know of a dock that can handle this? Thanks.

I am running this with a TB3 dock + HDMI port. Works well, but need to find a TB dock that wakes up again correctly after mac goes to deep sleep.

You’re running three monitors with two through the dock and one via hdmi?

Any update?

I have a 16” Pro Max and have three LG Ultrafine 4K monitors connected, one to the first thunderbolt port and then the second two daisy chained to the second thunderbolt port. I have also attached a fourth monitor (Huawei Mateview 4K) via its USB-C port to the third thunderbolt port / it also works via the HDMI port but the Huawei monitor is limited to 50hz connected by HDMI. I was surprised the fourth monitor worked via the TB port as was expecting to have to use HDMI port. Also have tried connecting two monitors via a TB3 dock but have found sleep a bit flaky so disconnected it and attached my peripherals to one of the Ultrafines instead

Could you guys tell me if fans are audible when 3 or 4 monitors are connected to M1 max?

This is my biggest gripe with my 15” 2018, even one monitor causes so much fan noise

I have four 4K monitors attached plus the internal display and a 12.9" iPad setup as a sidecar display so 6 in total and haven't heard the fans once. On my old i9 intel mbp the fans would run constantly loud with 3 monitors attached.

Thanks for the reply! Looks like I have to order it now ?
