Macbook Pro will not power up

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro and it will not power up. The MagSafe charger is showing green but when I press the power button there are no lights, no fans spinning, nothing. I have tried an alternative battery and I have tried resetting the SMC without success, any ideas

I seem to recall those models had am undersized capacitor that was prone to dying on the motherboard, causing total non powering.
