Whenever I close my Macbook Pro and then open it again, nothing comes up. There's a sound that plays whenever you hit a key, so it's responding in some manner, but the screen remains black. I've searched for similar problems, but none of the ones I've seen ever give a clear cut answer to the problem. Thanks in advance!

try the brightness buttons?
Ha HA! Yes.
Have you tried an SMC reset?
Sure have. I'm on an Intel based (2007-2008?) Macbook Pro running 10.4.11
You see, here's the thing. There are far too many of those threads, all of which are pages upon pages of "Yeah I'm having the same problem." It would be nice if it were consolidated.

here you go

so i just called apple, after like 45 minutes of hold time, apparently its a "known issue in leopard". the temporary fix is to uncheck "automatically reduce the brightness of the display before sleep" in the energy saver.

for the last 3 times that i used sleep, this has worked so hopefully they come up with a permanent solution soon

I couldn't agree more! I think redundant threads on the same topic are counter-productive and make it harder for people to find answers to commonly-asked questions. The fewer threads on the same topic the better! So why did you choose to exacerbate the problem by creating yet another thread on this, instead of searching for and reading the existing threads, which have the solution you were looking for?
