hey everybody, i just need advice improving my setup.
Currently i have a 1080p acer 21.5' monitor H223HQ.

I love watching HD movies on the external monitor connected to my macbook pro, i don't really use the acer monitor as primary just movies mainly. most of the times i browse on the MBP while watching youtube and itunes open on the external monitor.

The monitor is great but i feel it is too small when watching movies from my bed.

what's the difference if i go for a bigger HDTV ( i love the sony bravia tvs). will the picture look as good as my acer monitor or better?
i'm thinking 32', i don't have a big room. is it a good idea?
cheers

as the PPI is lower then logically no
but as your going to be further away it will counter the lower PPI, should look great, just don't get like a 52" will look stupid :)

thanks for the reply mulo.
lower ppi, i see.

i'm just wondering what people prefer for watching movies.

I like watching movies on my 50" Plasma.....so.....

Same here, on a 42" plasma. And if I recall correctly, the optimum viewing distance for a 42" is ~8-12 feet away. Just search for viewing distances for whatever size tv you're interested in and you'll find plenty of info.

Also, since you'd like to watch movies through your laptop, an LCD will likely yield the better picture.

you must be a mile away, I can tell the individual pixels apart on my 17" MBP and i'm 2-3 feet away.
in case anyone don't know the 17" is 1920x1200

Well I watch it in my living room, but yes I sit about 8 or 10 feet away.

If all you're going to be doing on the monitor/TV is watch movies and videos, then I would buy a TV solely because you will not be using all the extra resolution that comes with a monitor by using it to just watch movies and videos.

my 21.5' monitor is 1080p and full hd tv have the same resolution. sometimes i like watching movies on the external while browsing on the mbp on my desk, other times i watch movies from my bed.

just wondering if i go from 1080p monitor to 32 hdtv is a good idea.

Best ideal size for visible pixel vs size vs resolution for movies are:

Watching Range: 4-6 feet from screen.
Size range: 23" inch to 30" inch monitor.
Resolution: 1080p or 1680x1050+
Because since you are close to monitor, the pixels can be visible to bare eyes.

Watching Range: 7-12 feet from screen.
Size range: 40" inch to 60" inch monitor.
Resolution: 720p or 1440x900+
You're so far away, you won't be able to see pixel even at 720p.

Best of the best 1080p+, get it if you have the option.

Apple 27" LED monitor is very impressive NICE but $1000.
