Hello folks,

I am thinking about getting the MacBook pro with an external display. BUT I have never tried such a setup. So, I wonder:

Does powering the external display limit the MacBook pro's ability to run photoshop smoothly? Does powering the external display limit the macbook pro's ability to run video games? More broadly, what are the drawbacks of this setup?

Thank you.

Just wanted to give my post a bump. Hoping someone can help me out. Thank you.

The new MacBook Pros supposedly can drive two of the Pro Display XDR monitors. I am using mine with three non-retina displays. I think you'll be fine. The only question might be with gaming, not because it affects performance, but because some games might be confused by a multi-monitor setup. Worst case scenario, you close your MacBook's screen while gaming and just use the external.
