I'm thinking about purchasing a new Retina MacBook pro and I plan on using it with my 24 Inch Asus LED Monitor. Would that work out or is it stupid to go that route?
It should be more than capable of running that monitor, but if you're planning to basically use it like a desktop computer, never taking advantage of the built in display, I think that would be a bit of a waste.

Of course I will. I will be using both as I'm using it now with the none Retina Macbook pro. But when I'm working at home I would like to use the second monitor.
That should work just fine. You might notice the large difference in pixel density when going from the retina screen to the external monitor but otherwise no problem.
