Hi! I´m traveling to New York from Sweden soon and is planning to buy a MacBook Pro. Would it be possible to get the student discount there in a store if I show like an ISIC card or do you even have to show student id?

I bought my current MacBook Pro with the student discount and nobody at the Apple Store ever asked me for my student ID or .edu email address (I had both handy in case).

Yes, I've made several EDU purchases for my kids, and was prepared to show proof but was never asked.

If you have student ID, they will give it to you on the spot. If you have corporate ID (even a business card with accompanying photo ID) they will give it to you on the spot. You can always go to the online store and "select the college you go to" (not sure they even require that anymore) and get a student discount.

The student discount isn't much, but the associated requirements are low, too.

Here in the EU, you have to provide some sort of authentication to access the Apple Online Store for Education. Usually this is done via the Unidays-account which students at most universities can set up, but there are alternatives like sending a copy of your Student ID/immatriculation papers to Apple and have someone manually approve it. Once you're past that point and successfully have accessed Apple's EDU store, there are usually no more authentications necessary. Not sure if the situation in the US is the same but I presume this is the general system that Apple uses in most countries.

The one time asked for ID in an Apple store I had forgotten my college ID. They asked to see that I was getting email via a .edu address. I took out my phone, showed them the account, and that was enough.

For me I just went to apple education store, put in my email address(Yahoo) and Im able to shop but I have NOT checked out yet..not sure if I would have to put in any EDU info or anything like that Im not picking up in store just getting it shipped..its either get it from here or order from best buy with best buy Id be able to get 150 bucks off with the student coupon which basically is the sales tax

In the US you can order it online and get it delivered, no question asked.

Awesome sounds good. When I asked apple they said that "Sometimes" they email you asking for verification of EDU email, etc so that is why I was asking. Not sure if that would happen to me or not they said its rare but it does happen

At least here in the states - no. Many years ago, I would call to an sales agent, and just tell them the name of the institution (I picked a local community college). Later, on the web, you just choose a school - no verification. My daughters both use gmail as their email, and have ordered this way.

Okey but do you guys believe it will still work although I’m not from United States?

Is the discount supposed to be for higher ed students only? Or could someone bring in their nephew from Middle School for instance?

Usually you have to be in the same country as the university as far as i know. But that itself might vary from country to country. Don't know about the US, but I know in UK and Australia Apple store folks told me they would only get the discount if university in that country. That being said this topic came up recently and someone else said they were able to get student discount abroad.

They aren't going to discriminate, especially if you have a form of Student ID, and especially in the NYC stores where they handle cases like yours from all over the world. They don't have a specific SKU for educational Macs.
