So I plugged in an external hard drive (enclosure with a drive attached) to my Macbook Pro. Immediately my MBP shuts off and there was a little bit of smoke from the right side of the computer (side I plugged the USB cable in). I quickly pulled out the USB cable and tried to power on my computer again. All I get is a black screen for a few seconds before I hear the computer shutting off (doesn't even get to the Apple logo).

My guess is the motherboard is shorted or something is fried. I purchased this MBP about 10 months ago so I'm still under warranty. My question is, will they cover it?

Also, it's finals week for me and all of my papers and presentations are on here. Luckily I use Time Machine but will I be able to retrieve those files using my friends Macbook?
