My two year old 17" Macbook Pro 2.4GHZ (4GB ram) has suddenly "crashed" ... and i have no idea why, i've never had trouble with it before.
when i turn it on, it gets past the grey screen and the apple, but gets permenately stuck on the blue screen
i tried "zapping" the p-ram, and i have tried verifying and repairing the hard drive in disc utility (it said the hard drive was OK) when i have booted from my OS DVD... still doesn't work!!
and i have no recent back-up....
i wanted to do an "archieve and install" to reintall the OS, but when I boot from my OS DVD (leopard) and get to the hard drive selection page and select "options" there are only two options available, "OS Extended Journaled" or "OS Extended journaled, Case sensative" , both options of which force me to hit the earse button!
i think possibly i can't do an archieve and install coz i only have 1.7 GB free on my hard drive? is that correct?
also i think i might have been slightly behind with updates... so i could have a not 100% updated OS... but if so it would only be one major update behind or something... that wouldn't be the problem would it? coz its not like i can update it now!
im running 10.5 (leopard)
does any one have any suggestions?? i really need help i have a lot of stuff on that computer that i need! (and people telling me i should have done a more recent backup doesn't count as "helpful" advice... i know!! but theres notthing i can do about it now! )
Is there anything i can do to preserve my data and fix my computer!!??
