I'm having some difficulty fixing my sisters early 2015 MacBook Pro and wondering if maybe somebody has some insight.
Last night while she was listening to Spotify the computer suddenly shut off. She said the screen just went black like it went to sleep. The green light is lit on the MagSafe adapter but when she tried turning it back on it did not work.
Today I tried to reset the SMC but I could not try resetting the PRAM or booting into Safe Mode since the start up chime never plays. Nothing seems to happen when the power button is pressed except for one strange thing. Her MacBook has the force touch trackpad so when it's off, it does not click. When I press the power button though, the trackpad clicks when you press it and if you press and hold the power button again like you are shutting it off, the clicking stops. Apart from that nothing else signals it's booting up. Nothing comes on the screen, the fans don't run. It's completely dead. I tried popping the bottom case off, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it but still nothing changes.
I'm kind of at a loss for what to try next before I bring it to Apple. The computer is out of warranty by 1 month (always the way) so if there is something I could try myself I'd like to do that before she has to fork over the money for a repair. Any suggestions?
Update: So it turned out to be a logic board issue. Was quoted $850 to repair it but Apple is replacing it for free since it was only 53 days outside of the warranty.
