macbook pro won't go to sleep

I am having a problem with my macbook pro. When I close the lid it cuts off for a second and then comes back on. It stays on for 5-10 minutes and then finally cuts off. It seems that I have a problem to when I leave it hooked up to the power supply and don't touch it for a while it won't go to sleep there either.

Everything is updated and the computer is less than a year old. I think it is the most recent version of macbook pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to System Preferences>Accounts and you create a new user account. Does the computer go to sleep in the new user account?

created a new account still same problem.
