Hi people,
First post so i'm a bit nervous.
New to Macs had an old G5 PPC now for about a year
Got given a MacBook Pro 13" early 2011 model 8.1 but no instillation disks.
The HDD has been wiped clean via format.
I have both a tiger and leopard retail disks but when i try to use these nothing happens no language selection, no disk utility, apple logo appears then three beeps over and over.
The Mac was fine before my friend gave it to me so i am quite puzzled about what's going on he put the HDD into another mac and formatted it.

Windows Vista installs and works fine reboots etc ?

In need of some real help please

Many Thanks

That machine will not run Leopard ... you need the SL retail disc or the restore discs that came with it ... you can order those from Apple by calling them.

You can only install a Mac OS X version, that is the same or higher, than the version the MBP came with.
Since that MBP came with a special build of Mac OS X 10.6.6, you need to contact Apple and get the original Restore DVDs from them, for a small fee, depending on your location.
The Retail version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard only goes up to 10.6.3/4.
You may also use the Lion USB flash memory thumb drive, that is available for 69 USD via the Apple Online Store.

That will not work, as the Early 2011 MBPs had a special build of 10.6.6, that included the drivers for those MBPs, which are not available in any prior version of 10.6.

Ah, ok. Looks like the restore discs are the only thing that will work.
