Hello all, and a preemptory thanks for anyone that can help.
My MacBook Pro (2014 - 15.4" - Fairly loaded) has been unable to shut down or restart without doing a hard restart (power button held down). At first, I thought this was a glitch after upgrading to El Capitan, but after restoring to a Time Machine backup to Yosemite, the same problem exists. When I try to shut down/restart, I get a grey screen with a wheel that spins forever. The only way to get out of this is a hard restart. When I start up following, everything appears to be running 100%. No errors. No slowdowns. Nothing out of the ordinary. Here's what I have tried so far (based on my online research):
1) Reset the PRAM.
2) Tried to startup in Safe Mode - Nothing happened. Just started up as normal. Tried this several times.
3) Recreated the problem in Guest login. Same situation.
4) Was able to shut down/restart from the initial logon screen...don't know how that's different.
5) Cleaned out all caches and whatnot (CC Cleaner)
6) Ran Disk First Aid
Seems like this could be something with my user profile (though the guest logon did the same thing). I am at a loss. I live out of the country (hundreds of miles from an apple store), and definitely out of applecare. Would just like to make this thing work properly. As a secondary question, how bad for the system to do a hard restart (with the button). If it doesn't harm anything, I guess I can live this way.
Thanks again for any answers or guidance...I'm not super techie, and I don't want to mess this up any worse than it already is. Thx.
