Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here would be able to help as I'm trying to save some cash.

My 2009 MacBook Pro is currently stuck on the blue screen of doom.. Seems like my hard drive has given up. I will never learn from past mistakes and backup my data, but I've come to terms with this now haha.
But if I replace my hard drive, will it boot and run as normal or do I need the disk?

Try to run diagnostics. Boot computer with D pressed and diagnostics CD (one of 2 you get with computer) in reader.

Also, could be that it won't boot but the data may be readable from a new
system drive.
Can you get hold of a drive with a system on or boot from the DVD copy of OSX??

Don't give up just yet, I have been here and managed to get all my data back.

Martin.

Thanks for the help you two, really appreciate it. I'll look for the CD and see if it works, fingers crossed!

No problem :)

Buy yourself a new "bare" drive and a cheap external enclosure.

If you can get the internal drive kind of working, you can then install a new system
to the external, take drive out and swop with your internal that has problems.
( I wouldn't trust that for further use ! )

Keep us posted?
