Hey guys I have a question. Do i have a defective snow leopard disk or is it my comp? The snow leopard disk is the retail 30 dollar copy. I bought it the day it was released. Up until now, ive been using my "free upgrade" version from apple and that always worked.

i tried reformatting my comp but for some reason i get a kernel panic. Once i take out the CD it boots up fine. This happened with a 2010 macbook pro, also with a brand new 2011 15 macbook pro, and now a 2011 13 macbook pro. could my disk be defective? I get the kernel panic every time i try to reinstall snow leopard. I tried holding c and doing it from there and i tried when i choose to install from my homescreen. both end in a kernel panic.my luck cant be THAT bad that all three computers have messed up superdrives or something.

Are you saying that you have two different Snow Leopard discs, a paid and a free version? What are the version numbers of each disc? Chances are those Snow Leopard discs won't work with the computers you listed as they shipped with a newer version of Snow Leopard. The 2010 MBP would have shipped with X 10.6.3 (10D2125) and the 2011s would have shipped with X 10.6.6 (10J3210).

Yeah, none of the computers you mentioned are likely to work with a retail disk. You'll need to use the one that shipped with each computer.

sorry, i just remembered it wasn't free. it was the 10 dollar deal.

but anyways, the retail version of snow leopard says its version 10.6 and 2z691-6248a and i just found my 2010 macbook install dvd. that says its mac os version 10.6.3, disc version 1.0, 2z691-6623-a

Ah ok, then yeah none of your computers will work with the retail disc. And there isn't a newer one out than the 10.6.3 release. (10.6.3 on the grey disc is a special one with more drivers/kexts than the 10.6.3 retail white one).

what happens when both cd's give me an error though? even the 10.6.3 won't install. it goes to a blank screen and begins to beep.
