Macbook problem

Hi

My friend has a Macbook and it has just developed a fault with the screen, as the unit powers up and the fan runs but nothing comes on the screen.

Macbook is white.
Model identifier: 5,2

I believe it is this one;

Is this an easy fix or not?

How old is that MacBook and what colour has it? Can it display something on an external display?
