Macbook Programs help needed

Hey guys,
I just got my refurbished macbook today and have few questions.
Like the programs that are on the dock are the only programs the computer comes with?

I cant find a program "like MS word" the mac version so i can type my essays on it. Help please! Does it have anything like that or i have to buy?

Also on iMovie 09 i want to fast forward through some clips but i am not sure how. Like its more confusing then i thought.

Open Office is a free text editor like Word.

If you're willing to spend money, there is a version of Microsoft Office available for Mac, but Apple's iWork is better.

i downloaded iworks for free, i saw this video on youtube and they gave some kind of code after you download trial, you paste code and bam full iwork 09.
