my friend gave me a 1GB ram stick from his imac and its DDR2 6400s

and will that work on my macbook 2GHz model

yeh and i can add another 1GB stick or 4GB - 2x2GB
but will the one from the imac work with the macbook even though its a 5300s and the ram is 6400s

It should work backwards. but you need 2 chips in there, u can't just run it with 1.

Yeah it should work but the piont is its ships with 2x512mb ram which is faster than 1x1gb.

Apple recommends you don't mix ram sizes and brands for example u can't put that 1gb ram in 1 slot and leave 512 mb ram that it shipped with in the other because they will be different sizes and different brands.
