I have a late 2009 macbook, and while I do like it a lot, I think it needs more ram. I take it a lot of places and so I often run many applications, so the stock 2Gb ram I imagine is hampering its performance. I was looking at OWC's website and they have 4Gb for $50 and 8Gb for $100.

Was originally going to go for 8Gb, but now I am questioning if it is really going to help that much more compared to 4Gb. What do you guys think, is it worth the extra $50 to go ahead and get the 8?

Look at Activity Monitor's System Memory tab and see how much data you page out.
8GB is better than 4GB and if you have many applications open, you will notice the difference. I currently have 6GB in my 2009 MBP and I can still manage to page out a lot of data.

Here is my activity monitor window. Yea the ram gets low, not sure how much paging is normal though.
