So I bought my girlfriend a used blackbook because her old macbook had some water damage. Anyway, the new laptop is great and all except the computer doesnt seem to recognize when the display is being closed. It doesnt sleep or shutoff the display or anything. Also, the display flickers sometimes. Is there anything I can do about this? Do I need to replace the display ribbon cable, or what else would cause this?

thanks.

I usually grab the biggest hammer I can find in situations like these!

haha, no try resetting the SMC and maybe even the PRAM

If it never sleeps when you close the lid, but sleeps if you tell it to, then it sounds like the magnetic REED switch is either broken or misadjusted. This would require you to send it in, unless you are computer savvy, then you can do it yourself.

yea I did that, to no avail.

highly doubt it's still under warranty, plus I've taken apart my fair share of macbooks so I may give it a go. Either way, its not much of a concern. I already succeeded in training my girlfriend to manually put it to sleep when shes not using it, so it's no biggie.

If it was an easy fix I would have done it. Thanks guys.
